There are different types of poetry. The most common are Limerick, Sonnet, and Free Verse. My personal favorite is the Sonnet.
Limerick Sonnet Free Verse
Is a five-line poem with a form of AABBA. This means that the last words in the first, second, and fifth line has to rhyme and the third and fourth line has to rhyme.

Is a fourteen (14) line poem with a form of ABAB, CDCD, EFEF, and GG. Just like a limerick certain lines has to rhyme. Also it must be broken into 4 stanzas. Stanza is another word for paragraph. Example ABAB is one stanza or paragraph.

Is a poetry written in either rhyme or unrhymed lines that have no set fixed metrical pattern. This means you are free to write it as you please with no limit to how much you want to write and it does not matter whether it rhymes or not.
