Ocala National Park was created in 1908 by President Theodore Roosevelt who is an avid outdoors man. The forest includes several prehistoric villages and pioneer settlements.
The timber industry helped the Ocala National Forest to be formed. After years and years of over burning and deforestation, the land was worth less than what the tax payers were paying for it. This was one of the leading events for it to become a National Forest.
