During the early 1920’s Howard Carter made one of the most monumental discoveries of the 20th century. However, few knew of an equally significant discovery. Just across from The Valley of the Kings, Deir el-Medina is the most organized socially, structurally and can is one of the most thoroughly excavation sites still examined today.

medina_textThe village originally was home to workers and artisans of the tombs. They allowed a free society, but with this law and order was established along with open worship. One of the most noted gods of Deir el Medina is Hathor; the goddess of the sky, music, love and joy.

Thousands of historical texts have been found and examined as well. Workers would document living conditions, observations and other events during this time. Many believe that this excavation has provided the most profound insight to Ancient Egyptian culture and architecture.
