John Ro Myung is the bassist and a founding member of the progressive metal group Dream Theater. He was born on January 24, 1967 in Chicago, Illinois. John Myung was born into a Korean family, and he grew up in Kings Park, Long Island, and New York. He played violin from the time he was five, until the time he was asked to play electric bass for a local band when he was fifteen. He and his friend John Petrucci graduated high school and went to Berklee College of Music. There he and John Petrucci met Mike Portnoy, and they formed a band they called Majesty with two other high school friends. The band eventually became Dream Theater.
