Black and White Picture Example

Black and white photography is the best way to portray emotions on film. The use of monochrome (one color) allows the viewer of the photograph to create an emotion in their mind and the type of setting the people or objects of interest are in.

"The black and white photographer can exercise considerable control over the shades of grey which make up the final print image. We covered overall exposure and contrast control in the section on enlarging. The techniques of burning in and dodging during the enlarging process can provide further darkening or lightening of specific areas of the print." says Jim Hannah.

B&W photography is best to use when capturing various lights. Spot lights are best used when focusing on one imagine in particular. When a landscape picture is created, different sections are illuminated creating depth and various points of interest.

Colorless pictures give an old style feel to a picture which enhances emotions of the time when it was captured. "Black-and-white remains a niche market for photographers who use the medium for artistic purposes. This can take the form of black and white film or digital conversion to grayscale, with optional image manipulation to enhance the results. For amateur use, certain companies such as Kodak manufactured black-and-white disposable cameras until 2009."
