The History Of Mount Rushmore

home history things to do weather

The idea for this monument came from a man named Doane Robinson. His idea didn't come for his love for the presidents, but for his state of South Dakota. This was his idea to attract people to South Dakota, an idea of tourism.

Doane had the idea, but the designer of the monument was Guzton Borglum. Not many people know, but a lot of the making of this monument was not all chipping and carving the mountain. To get the form they wanted, they had to use thousands of pounds of dynamite.

The designer of the died before it was fully finished, but then many workers finished his work, and they did not fail. Now this monument gets over 3 million visits by tourists every year. It is constantly being watched and cleaned and taken care of.
