Home To Do Weather History

Washington Monument The Washington Monument is located in Washington D.C., and was built in honor of our first president, George Washington. It is a huge tower centered in front of a large pool of water, and can be recognized as the tallest building in Washington. You can see it in many pictures and movies throughout history. The monument is currently closed due to damage from the 2011 earthquake, but plans are to reopen in 2014. Even if it had not been damaged, it would not be open today because of the government shutdown.

Many tourists flock to D.C. to visit the massive historic monument and pay tribute to George Washington, our first president. All of the flags from all states of the U.S. surround the magnificent monument in tribute.
