The Florida Everglades stretches over 1.5 million acres of land. Native Americans call it Pahayokee, or 'grassy waters. It is filled to the brim with saw grass marshes, mangrove forests, and hardwood hammocks. The area is dominated by wetlands. It comprises the largest subtropical wetland ecosystem in the U.S. Though the Everglades is very large it is only half of its original size.

The Everglades is filled with wild life. It has a series of snakes, birds, turtles, and other animals living in the ecosystem. The most commonly know is the American crocodile and the alligator. It is the only place were both of these animals coexist. Though is has a lot of wild life, it has a lot of endangered species too, over 76 to be exact. That is why we must keep protecting this area of land.
