There are a great number of Jpop singers worth mentioning, but here are the best and most famous of them. Note: All statistics are according to the Oricon charts.
Hikaru Utada – Being born in New York, she is fluent in both English and Japanese. She is most well-known for the theme songs she sang for Kindgom Hearts II, “Simple and Clean” and “Sanctuary.” Her album First Love is Japan’s biggest selling album ever.
Namie Amuro – She is singer, dancer, and former actor who was referred to by her fans as "Queen of Jpop." She started her career at fourteen and won the Golden Arrow Award 1995. She sang “Can You Celebrate?" and made it the best-selling single in Japan. Her songs were used in Pokemon and Prison Break.
T.M. Revolution (aka Takanori Nishikawa) – His #1 song is “Hot Limit”, and he has made multiple songs for the animes Gundam and Rurouni Kenshin. He was previously the vocalist in a visual kei band called Luis-Mary.
Orange Range – This 5 member rock band has made songs for Fantastic Four, Code Geass, Bleach, Fire Boys, Hana-Kimi, and Teppan Shōjo Akan. Their greatest single is Asterisk, of which 628,329 copies were sold.
L'Arc-en-Ciel ("The Arch to Heaven") – This band was formed in 1991 in their hometown of Osaka. They made songs for Guardian of the Spirit, Gundam, Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan, and Devil May Cry 4. Their 50-th anniversary show, L'Anniversary sold out in two minutes. They have an alter ego band, P'unk-en-Ciel.
Morning Musume – Commonly referred to as “Momusu”, this all-girl group is composed of nine singers. They are the most successful group from Hello! Project. They have yearly auditions and their members change with time. They have many songs that hit #1, and they even produced a musical, Ribbon no Kishi.
UVERworld – This band has a bear-bat-like mascot, who makes appearances on several album covers. Their original name was Sangoku Road, back when they had seven members, instead of five. Their number one song is “Hakanaku mo Towa no Kanashi”. They have made songs for eleven games/animes/dramas, including Bleach, D. Gray Man, and Gundam.
