Temple Mound Plaque

The Indian Temple Mound Museum opened in 1962, although the current building opened in 1972. When it first opened, it was the first municipally owned and operated museum in Florida. Over time, it has built up a display of over 1,000 artifacts detailing over 12,000 years of Indian history and heritage.
The museum is built next to an old Indian Temple Mound, where many of the artifacts on display in the museum were found. The Mound itself being an area full of culture and reminding people of those who once lived there and used the area, a museum was built there to celebrate the culture and to educate future generations about the Indians.
